I've always been an avid reader. As a child, I would read ANYthing I could get my hands on: the Bible, books of all kinds (mysteries, biographies, history, science, furniture and design styles and periods, animal care, religion, really anything) magazines, pamphlets, ingredient lists on food packages, the dictionary, ... Staying up late to finish a book was way more important than getting sleep in junior high and high school. As I got older, there were more responsibilities and less time to read, but I always made sure my children had ample access to all kinds of books to spur their imagination and deepen the love of learning and research. Some of my favorite memories are of my children learning to read and finding books that they loved. No matter what was going on in our lives, I made sure that we have time for me to read out loud to them every day. We spent countless hours a the library and and thrift stores going through the treasure trove of beautiful books.
This will be an updated post as we go through the year as a place to list the books I've read (and audiobooks I've listened to) throughout 2023. I hope you use the comments section to discuss them, share the books you've read this year, and share some of your all time favorite books regardless of when you read them.
Here we go!!!
Author: Dr. Laura Schlesinger
Kindle
Author: Joanna Davidson Politano
Kindle. Currently free if you have either a Kindle Unlimited or Audible membership (as of March 2023).
Author: Martha Hall Kelly
Borrowed the hardback edition from a friend that also loves reading and knows how partial I am to historical fiction. This is part of the terrifically written Lilac Girls series.
Author: Laura Doyle
Audible
Author: Alastair Fontana
Kindle. Action, drama, history, architecture! What more could you want?
Author: Mark Sullivan
I read the hardcover version, borrowed from the same friend that let me read Lost Roses. Mr. Sullivan is a captivating writer that really captured and conveyed the life of Pino Lella, an Italian man that lived through WWII. I always see and feel what I'm reading, but this book really brought me to highs of joy and tears of grief as I went through the chronicle of Pino's life. Currently free if you have a Kindle Unlimited membership (as of March 2023).
Author: Jack McCaig
Outlines an alternative way to get out of debt. Very short read. I have not tried any of the strategies from this book; let me know if you do, I'd love to hear how it turns out.
Authors: Melissa Hartwig Urban and Dallas Hartwig
I read the Kindle version, which is currently free if you have a Kindle Unlimited subscription (as of April 2023). I also have the hardcover edition, but did most of the reading of this book using Kindle. The Whole30 is an elimination diet with a guided reintroduction to certain foods and food groups. After eating not right for you foods for a prolonged period of time, we begin to feel as though the inflammation, bloating, pain, sadness, tiredness, ... are our new normal. The point of the Whole30 process is to see how each particular food (and food group) really makes you feel through paying attention through proper reintroduction.

Yes, I really do read cookbooks. I have the hardcover edition and have marked tons of pages of recipes I can't wait to make!
