Top Tips for Spring Cleaning

Spring time is here! That means a lot of us are clearing out the clutter (my neighborhood does a neighborhood wide yard sale each April). And, a lot of us are probably doing some deep cleaning. Read on for some tips to help! Make sure you get to the bottom of the article, because there's a FREE printable!!

START WITH A PLAN

Creating a plan of attack is the first step. Start by deciding what and where you want to declutter and clean. What do you want to focus on first and what kind of supplies do you need?

LIST OUT YOUR TASKS

This is different than your plan, make a list of all the tasks you want to complete in a specific area. Make sure to break each task down into more manageable chunks, then add them to your planner.

SET REALISTIC GOALS

Setting goals can help keep you motivated throughout the process, as long as they are realistic and possible to reach! It can be one task, or certain number of rooms, or a specified amount of time.

INVOLVE YOUR FAMILY

Spring cleaning is a great family activity! Assign each member a task or two and make it fun. It'll also get done much quicker with everyone pitching in.

DECLUTTER AS YOU GO

As you clean, take time to go through your things and get rid of any items you don't need or use anymore. Donate them or post them in a "buy nothing" FB group!

START TOP TO BOTTOM

Work your way from the top of the room to the bottom. For example wiping down ceiling fans before mirrors and dressers. Then the dust won't dirty up something you've already cleaned.

NATURAL PRODUCTS

Cleaning products can be expensive and also toxic. Try using some natural alternatives like vinegar, baking soda (I purchase this in bulk because we use it for so many things), hydrogen peroxide, and essential oils.

ORGANIZE YOURSELF

Staying and keeping things organized will be key. Take some time to come up with a system that works for you to organize the items that are in each room. For closet organization, these fabric bins are perfect for storing out of season clothes and these pant hangers are great at minimizing the space pants normally take up

CLEAN OUTSIDE

Spring cleaning can include the outside too! Take some time to pressure wash, clean windows, trim any trees or bushes, and get things spruced up in the sunshine!

TAKE BREAKS

Cleaning can be a lot of work and overwhelming so remember to properly hydrate! Give yourself small goals to complete and when you do take 10-15 minute breaks. Set a timer if you need to.
